As a wedding photographer in Somerset, I love when we get to do a pre-wedding session with my couples. Caitlin and Eric (and their super cute dog) moved from Los Angeles to Bath six months before their wedding. The ceremony was at Stourhead, followed by the reception at Babington House in Somerset.
They both work in the creative industry and are the kindest human beings. I was very excited when they chose me to photograph their wedding. The couple also wanted to have some photos taken on the streets of Bath. By the time we meet, they had lived there for a few months. According to Caitlin, they fell in love with the city straight away. During our Zooms we had some talks about colour-schemes and locations before the shoot and for some reason. We all assumed the wether would be kind to us (it was in the middle of summer) but on the day, it rained all day. Rescheduling could have been an option but because Caitlin had a bridal makeup trial with the talented Sophia Cox earlier that day, they decided to go ahead. I was over the moon!
Rainy days come with clouds. An overcast sky basically functions as a huge softbox, it provides beautifully soft, diffused light. This, combined with the warm tone of the stone buildings gave a fantastic starting point for this shoot. Caitlin and Eric are absolute pros too, so they looked effortlessly cool!
These pre-wedding sessions are very informal. We usually start with grabbing a coffee near the agreed location. Then we go for a walk. It’s a great opportunity for all of us to get used to each other and the idea of being photographed. Also, to talk about the logistics of the wedding day. And as a bonus, you can be as creative with your pre-wedding session as you’d like! They can happen anywhere, in your home, in an AirBnb, in a cafe or in the woods. Anywhere where you feel yourself!
