There are many things we have control over on a wedding day but the weather isn’t one of them. I am often asked what happens if it rains. My answer always is, that you do what you would do on a sunny day. Get married and enjoy the reception with your loved ones. I am not going to lie, photographing a rainy wedding at Came House has its own challenges (like it would have at any other venue) but if you accept that it might not look or feel like a Californian sunset wedding, I guarantee you that everything will be fine.
Dilara and Ben tied the knot at Came house in Dorset. This 18th century country house is a real gem, provides the perfect venue for an elegant country house wedding.
The couple had their wedding ceremony at St Peter’s Church, only a few minutes walk away from the main house. I was wondering around the house with my camera in hand all morning, documenting the preparation of the bride and bridesmaids and taking some environmental shots of the venue, as I usually do. Dilara and Ben decided to have a ‘first look’ moment prior to the ceremony, which we organised to happen at the staircase.
The ceremony was my favourite part. When I arrived, just moment before the bride, I realised that only one of the lights were on. Because of the layout of the benches, I decided to squeeze myself into a little nook at the top of the isle. I knew that I will be able to move when the couple gets seated during the ceremony. It was really dark but the warmth of that one single lightbulb made the images really atmospheric! At the end of the ceremony a Gordon Highlander piper led the congregation to the House for the drinks reception.
The rest of the day was really relaxed, we nipped out for some photos when the rain stopped for a few minutes. The wedding breakfast was served in the Drawing Room which was beautifully decorated by Grace from Bramble and Wild. I hope this set will show you that despite the challenges, a rainy wedding at Came House can look cool on photos.
